2016 Oldest Furnace Contest Winners2016 Oldest Furnace Contest Winners

This Year’s Oldest Contest winners are…Roger and Julietta Cory of Elkhart! CONGRATULATIONS!! You’re the 2015/2016 Oldest Furnace Contest WINNERS. Roger and Julietta submitted a 61 year old furnace, and it still works!! Roger said that it was a used unit when it was installed in the home in the 1950’s. Roger and Julietta have been working very hard on updating their home; the furnace was one of the last things that they would eventually have to replace. Service Legends will be installing a new furnace for the Cory’s for FREE, because they took a minute to enter the Contest. Whether it’s helping a neighbor, a co-worker, or saying thanks to someone always going the extra mile… tell us about them. Maybe this Christmas will be tough for you and your family. Christmas Wish #10 – Adopted Kids – A family in Des Moines dropped everything and adopted their grandchildren who showed up on their doorstep with just a box of clothes and one stuffed animal. This year, we work together to show just what Christmas is all about.

Christmas Wish #9 – Single Mom – We grant a Christmas Wish for Kathy, a single mom struggling to put food on the table and gifts under the tree.

Christmas Wish #8 – Fridge – After Elizabeth was in a hit and run car accident, her family did everything they could to help her. Now, she wants to give back.

Christmas Wish #7 – Swimming – Connor is a 6 year-old boy who’s struggle with ear infections his whole life. All he wants to do is swim.

Christmas Wish #6 – Clothes – Jessica has had a rough year after a blood disorder diagnosis. We grant a wish so Jessica and her son can have some new clothes that they otherwise wouldn’t be able to afford.

Christmas Wish #5 – Alice – Alice is a young girl living with cancer. Many people wrote to us asking to help her. We grant a wish for her so that she can live in a clean home.

Christmas Wish #4 – Car Seats – After a devastating tragedy, we grant a Christmas Wish for adoptive parents that are looking for the necessities for their new kids.

Christmas Wish #3 – Day Care – Sometimes you just want to give back to those that have been so good to you. When Angie started a new job, she never realized how much like family they would become.

Christmas Wish #2 – Saudi Arabia – Childhood sweethearts who both became teachers are a world apart with one of their kids fighting leukemia. We wanted to do something special for when they reunite for Christmas.

Christmas Wish #1 – Bike – We grant a Christmas Wish for a dad to get back out and get active with his family.

Christmas Wish #5: Breast Cancer – From one breast cancer survivor to another, a wish to help for gifts for her family around the holidays.

Christmas Wish #4: Flight – Nicholas is a very giving young man that helps his mom with so much. His mother wants to send her son to see his dad for Christmas.

Christmas Wish #3: Christmas Tree – Every family deserves a Christmas tree and a nice meal. We grant a wish for just that for a deserving Iowa family.

Christmas Wish #2: Heart Transplant – A wish for an Altoona family struggling to pay the bills after receiving a life-saving heart transplant. Christmas gift includes gifts for their 7 year old daughter, a catered Christmas dinner and a $500 gas gift card.

Christmas Wish #1: Furnace – Ryan, a hard-working single dad, and his three kids had their wish granted for a warm and comfortable home this Christmas: a brand new furnace, including installation by the Home Comfort Heroes at Service Legends, a large Christmas feast, as well as plenty of presents under the tree.

2014 – The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society (LLS)

What is Man & Woman of the Year? Each year, in communities across the country, dynamic, passionate candidates engage in a spirited competition to earn The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society’s “Man & Woman of the Year” titles by raising funds for blood cancer research. The candidates compete in honor of children who are local blood cancer survivors, the Boy & Girl of the Year. Every dollar counts as one vote, and the titles are awarded to the Man and Woman with the most votes at the end of ten weeks. Service Legends is donating 10% of its net profit each month February 2014 – April 2014 to this cause.

2013 Christmas Wishes with STAR 102.5

2013We all know someone who’s always doing more than he or she should. Whether it’s helping a neighbor, a co-worker, or just going that extra mile. That’s why STAR 102.5 and Service Legends Heating and Cooling are making a merrier Christmas for those hard-working, dedicated Central Iowans with STAR 102.5’s Christmas Wish. Let’s celebrate that special person who’s always putting others first. Throughout the month, several hard-working and dedicated central Iowans have had Wishes granted. Christmas Wish #10: For Brenda Schmitz’s Family – We’ve never received a wish quite like the one from Brenda Schmitz. Brenda wrote a letter to STAR 102.5’s Christmas Wish one month before she passed away from ovarian cancer. She asked us to do one last thing for the family she was leaving behind. Updates on the Schmitz family.

Christmas Wish #9: Dana Parmenter – Coleen takes care of her 10 year old nephew Sam, who has cerebral palsy. As she gets older, helping him get around has become more difficult. Her daughter Dana wishes to make life a little easier for them both.

Christmas Wish #8: Allyson Ladd – Allyson lost her Dad suddenly in June after he was hit on a bike while training for RAGBRAI. Her Mom continues to stay strong for the family, but Allyson wants to give her a very special Christmas Wish.

Christmas Wish #7: Nichole Ortiz – Like so many, Nichole and her husband Robert have been struggling to stay afloat. Robert’s taking steps to better himself by continuing his automotive education, and needs a little extra help this Christmas.

Christmas Wish #6: Ralph Chiodo – Rochelle went to college with Ralph and, through the power of Facebook, has followed him through the years. She’s impressed with all Ralph’s doing with his life and how he gives back to his community.

Christmas Wish #5: Erin Aldridge – Erin’s husband Josh struggles with an immune deficiency, making it tough for him to play with their two active boys. Even simple things like taking them to on a bike ride or to play at the park are tough.

Christmas Wish #4: Kendra Richards – After battling health issues earlier this year, Kendra is convinced God saved her life, and her 5 year old daughter, Reese, saved her spirit. Kendra takes a minute to recognize Reese’s soft and caring heart with a Christmas Wish.

Christmas Wish #3: Melissia Vorel – At age 38, Melissia found out she had cancer and was pregnant with her 4th child within a day of each other. 9 years later, she’s cancer free and looking for ways to create memories for her family.

Christmas Wish #2: Lisa Dolan – Lisa has suffered with health concerns for a number of years. Her brother, Larry, has stepped up in every way possible to help Lisa and her two daughters and Lisa wants to give back to him.

Christmas Wish #1: Michelle Cunningham – A Christmas Wish is granted for a mother hoping to recognize her daughter for all she’s done this year.

2013 – Children’s Miracle Network Drive

Brian Leech, and several team members at Service Legends Heating and Cooling, were on location at the University of Iowa Children’s Hospital, answering phones for the Children’s Miracle Network drive on May 23-24, 2013.

100% of all donations are used to help the kids at the University of Iowa Children’s Hospital. Your donations help fund life-saving research and equipment as well as provide bereavement support for families, fund NICU memorial services and provide toys and games for waiting rooms and teen areas.

2012 – Faith & Family Night – Jason Gray in Concert – Sponsored by Service Legends

Sunday, March 10, 2012 – Service Legends Sponsored Faith and Family Night with the Iowa Energy and a special uplifting concert with Life 107.1 artist, Jason Gray! Tickets were just $10.71 and included a hot dog, popcorn and soft drink.

Warm Your Heart Foundation, sponsored by Service Legends2012 – Warm Your Heart Foundation – nominate someone starting December 26!

Not all families have the ability to provide safe heat in their home. So we formed the Warm Your Heart Foundation to help with this need. If you or a family that you know is in need of a new furnace, please visit the Warm Your Heart Foundation website and nominate them. A committee of community leaders will review each application and determine which families will receive the gift of warmth for their home. Applications with all areas completed will have a greater chance of being fulfilled. 2012 – Christmas on Us

98.3 WOW-FM and Service Legends presented “Christmas on Us” to a wonderful family in 2012. Despite experiencing a challenging year, this family continues to give back to their community. Congratulations to Don and Carolyn Seeth for being chosen as our Christmas on Us family this year. We hope $1000 in cash and other prizes eases some of the challenges they have been facing.

2012 – Christmas Wishes with STAR 102.5

We all know someone who’s always doing more than he or she should. Whether it’s helping a neighbor, a co-worker, or just going that extra mile. Working together with STAR 102.5’s Christmas Wish enables us to make a merrier Christmas for those hard-working, dedicated central Iowans. We are celebrating those special people who are always putting others first. Throughout the month of December, several people have been nominated, and have received Christmas Wishes. Learn more about the wish recipients below.

Wish 20 – Dinner, Spa and Toys – Jacob and his fiancé lost their son at 24 weeks. After such a traumatic loss, Jacob just wants her to be able to relax and recuperate.

Wish 19 – tires – Amy and her husband Jason have had a rough year. Jason’s lost his father in the fall. Jason had to use their savings to fund trips to the hospital instead of purchasing tires for his vehicle.

Wish 18 – Connor – Conner is just 3 years old, but he’s already a bone marrow donor for his baby sister, Hailey. Conner is a hero that deserves a good night sleep now that his sister is on the road to recovery.

Wish 17 – Wedding Rings – Karen had a very tragic accident and had lots of insurance costs. On top of it, her wedding ring needed to be replaced.

Wish 16 – Car – Heather is a single mom with 3 kids. She had a rough start to 2012, living in a shelter and trying to get back on her feet. Taking the kids all over town was very taxing on her car.

Wish 15 – Computer – Jan’s Christmas Wish was for her two sons. While she has struggled after losing her job, the boys have gladly gone without. She wants to give her boys a properly working computer. We have a gift for Jan as well.

Wish 14 – Bike – Dana’s wish was for her granddaughter, who is dealing with Spina Bifida. She can’t do things that most kids do. We grant Dana’s wish so that she can ride bikes with her sister.

Wish 13 – Headstone – Melissa’s Christmas Wish for her friends that lost their child was a proper memorial for their son. We help with that, plus a way to keep his spirit alive.

Wish 12 – Vacation for Kidney Donor and Recipient – Jeff’s wife received a kidney donation from a complete stranger. Jeff and his wife want to thank their donor with a beautiful vacation. But, there’s a surprise for Jeff and his wife…

Wish 11 – clothes and senior pictures – Andrew is a good kid with some serious health issues. Despite his physical and emotional disabilities, he tries so hard. We grant a wish for Andrew to get new clothes and a chance to show those new clothes off.

Wish 10 – Clean Air for Ava Jean – Ava Jean is a 5 year old girl living with Leukemia. She has had 2 blood transfusions and is hospitalized often. Ava’s skin is very sore and itchy from the chemo and the dry winter isn’t helping. With the help of STAR 102.5 and Service Legends, Ava Jean will be getting the furnace and air ducts in her house cleaned out as well as a whole house humidifier and a carpet cleaning. We hope this helps keep you comfortable! Merry Christmas Ava Jean!

Wish 9 – Wig for Haven – Haven is a 10 year-old girl living with Dyslexia and Alopecia. She tried different hair cuts and styles to hide it, but eventually had to wear hats all the time. One month ago Haven had to shave her head because she had so little hair left. Through it all Haven remains positive. For Christmas we will be sending Haven two wigs and a trip to Alopeciapalooza, a summer camp for children living with Alopecia. Merry Christmas Haven!

Wish 8 – Snow Removal for Senior Citizen – A wish for Heather’s mother-in-law who lost her husband and needs some help around the house after suffering health issues of her own.

Wish 7 – New Bed, Bedding and Help with Errands – Crystal’s friend Christine was diagnosed with Leukemia and had to undergo a bone marrow transplant. Unable to work, Christine lost her job. The beds in her home needed to be replaced and after replacing her children’s beds, she was unable to replace her own. On behalf STAR 102.5 and Service Legends, Christine was provided with a brand new Tempur-Pedic bed, bedding and pillows. Also, Home Remedies will provide personal assistance services a few hours a month for the next few months. Merry Christmas Christine!

Wish 6 – Water Heater – Tammy’s mom hasn’t had the money to repair her old water heater that’s damaged her home, let alone leave the house just for fun. Also included is a Mother/Daughter getaway/spa day.

Wish 5 – BFFs – Melissa’s best friend is Natalie who has been sick. She wants to ease her friend’s stress this holiday season with cleaning, decorating, food, and gifts. Natalie has been suffering with rheumatoid arthritis and as a result has lost her job. STAR 102.5 and Service Legends chose to step in and help make the holidays a little easier for Natalie and her family.

Wish 4 – Brain Cancer – Bradley has a rare form of brain cancer and may have just one last Christmas together with his family. We will make sure that they can all be together, have plenty of food and plenty of gifts for the kids, actually delivered by ‘Santa’. We want to make sure this Christmas is extra special for them.

Wish 3 – Weight Loss – Since going through weight-loss surgery, Aaron has not been able to work. The one thing Aaron wanted for Christmas was to see his family. With the help of STAR 102.5 and Service Legends, his wish was granted.

Wish 2 – Vikings – A brother gives his twin the gift of life. We give them a memorable experience with one of their favorite sports teams.

Wish 1 – Furnace – A family’s pastor reaches out to help with a basic need during the coming cold winter months.

2012 -Leukemia & Lymphoma Society (LLS)

The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society (LLS) is the world’s largest voluntary health agency dedicated to blood cancer. The LLS mission: Cure leukemia, lymphoma, Hodgkin’s disease and myeloma, and improve the quality of life of patients and their families. LLS funds lifesaving blood cancer research around the world and provides free information and support services. This year Brian Leech raised $62,000 for the Iowa Chapter of The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society (LLS), and was named the 2012 LLS Central Iowa Man of the Year. The funds raised will be used to fund research for leukemia, lymphoma and myeloma, and to provide information and services for patients and their families.

2012 – Children’s Miracle Network

Hospitals raises funds for 170 children’s hospitals across North America, which, in turn, use the money where it’s needed the most. The Children’s Miracle Network touches the lives of more children and their families than any other children’s charity. Whether they suffer from common childhood afflictions like asthma and broken bones, or fight bigger challenges like birth defects or cancer, Children’s Miracle Network Hospitals provide comfort, treatment and hope to millions of sick kids each year. Service Legends proudly sponsored the phone banks and worked the phones this year.
